Tips For Incorporating Popular 2019 Interior Design Trends
Each year there are changes in interior design trends, but jumping on the bandwagon is not always the right idea, especially if you make a significant investment only for your pieces to become outdated months later. There are simple ways to adopt the latest trends that may continue to stand the test of time.
Mixed Metals
Mixing different types of metals can help you achieve a modern or classic look, or even a nice hybrid of both. First, it is better to stick with classic metal finishes, such as gold, silver, copper, and bronze. Since these metals are classic, they are easy to incorporate into other design projects as trends change. The easiest way to incorporate metal is to change the hardware on doors and cabinets. You can quickly swap out drawer pulls and cabinet knobs. Shelves and tables are another option since they can be a stand-out piece for entertainment centers or the bathroom vanity. Try to avoid bright metals and opt for antiqued finishes since these blend in better with other metals and colors. If you have any small pieces of metal, you can antique some of them yourself with liver of sulfur, assuming the metal does not have a protective coating.
Nature
Bringing natural elements inside is another popular trend. You should start your design project with wood or bamboo. For example, living room or dining room sets with beautiful wood grain can serve as the perfect way to start your decorating, since all other items will be used to enhance the natural materials. For more flexibility, you may want to choose unfinished wood items so you can experiment with stains. You can often find stains that transform inexpensive wood items into rich, mahogany or cherry in appearance. Adding splashes of color you will find in nature, such as shades of greens and blues will enhance the natural materials. More greens can give a natural, woodsy vibe, whereas focusing on blues and soft browns can work well for a serene beachy feel.
Dark Colors
Some people can be apprehensive about using dark colors, such as black, in their home, but these colors can create a sophisticated and "moody" feeling. If black is too much for you, work with other dark neutrals, such as navy, chocolate, and gun metal. It can be easy to overdo darker colors, so painting the walls black is usually not the best move. You may want to have a black or navy couch with gunmetal accents. A dark kitchen backsplash or opting for black appliances can is another option. Since darker colors never truly go out of style, it is easy to adopt other trends later and they will generally work well with black, brown, or blue.
Incorporating interior design trends is a fun way to update any room in your home. Being selective about the pieces you buy or where you make investments will prevent you from wasting money on trends that do not carry over from year to year. Contact an interior designer for more help.
